Goodbye Dolphy

I was saddened by the recent news that the Philippines' King of Comedy passed away this 8:40 pm (July 10, 2012). I dont know Dolphy personally but I consider him as part of my life. I learned a lot from his films and his personal life.

One of my favorite film is "Tatay kong Nanay" which has this beautiful song...

"TULOG NA AKING BUNSO"
Tulog na aking bunso
Tahimik na ating mundo
Akoy laging naririto
Di aalis sa piling mo
Humimlay ka sa bisig ko
ipikit na ang mata mo
Mangarap ka sa dibdib ko
matulog na aking bunso
Chorus

Goodbye Dolphy. May you rest in peace.

Working with Conflict

In our subject Computer Aided Design (CAI), we are divided into 2 groups consist of 4 members each. Since I am the only person in our group to have knowledge using Flash, I was the one who will create the media for our subject learners, the other one in our team was assigned as the leader which  will be in charge of directing the project and monitoring its status. Another member assigned to look for a target school and gather information while the other will research for resources that is connected to our subject.
After a week, we have our first milestone for our project but unfortunately we dont have anything to present so an hour before our subject starts we rushly create it. As expected, a lot of we presented is shalow.
After the subject ended we meet and agreed to work for the next milestone. But the agreement didn't happen. So every week we dont have anything to submit. On my part, instead of waiting for nothing, in one of my vacant time while in Iligan I search for an school that would be our target learners. I interview them and made a research to produce data for our media hoping that if I can produce this they will help in documenting. But I failed to convinced and motivate them, until the time was up. We dont finish submitting our project.

Lesson Learned:
In our subject Project and Change Management where the topic is about Conflicts in Project, I learned that I already did all the approaches for managing conflicts. First, Avoidance. Instead of telling the problem, I just avoid to talk to them about the current problem of our group, instead I work alone to produce data. Then I tried to Collaboration. I asked them for an output and we agreed with the result but nothing happens. Next Compromise, I tried to agree on what time they will be available which produce a little bit in our project. Then Accomodation, I tried to listen but I found out that the reason that they are not doing something is they have work or personal problem, I just give them chance but only one in our team did a little bit change but it not result to produce any documents for our project. Lastly, I got angry and force them to produce the document or I'll just leave them behind.

In summary, nothing with my approach did best to re-route our group to work together and finish our project which finally let me realized that even how succesful the approaches is if there is no one feels the Responsibility, Accountability and Concern, it will not really work.

Project Transition

I am currently working on the Inspection Report of the Phase 1 and 2 of the Structured Cabling Sytem (SCS) project of the Xavier University - Ateneo de Cagayan. Although I am part of the team in Phase 3 of the project and assigned as an Assistant Project Manager, it is part of my duty to ensure that the installed cable is without deficiencies, no added cost and will not be the cause of the problem to the next project.

During the tests and inspections of the installed cables, I learned that it is not always get a 100% will passed because it has so many factors that will cause it to failed such as dust and dirts for the fiber optics. I also learned how the fluke tester works for different cable types, fiber optics and copper cables. Part of correcting the defects is to reterminate the end of each cables.

(This blog post is intended for the compliance in my masteral subject Project & Change Management)
